Arizona’s recently-passed immigration law has obviously stirred up a hornets nest. So, instead of writing a diatribe about my own opinion of the law, just a few questions for thought, and hopefully some discussion…
Regardless of whether you like the law or not, if the federal government had enforced their own laws, would the law have been necessary in Arizona?
Does America have the resources to handle an influx of people from a poverty-stricken nation?
Do you fault Arizona for passing the law when a significant percentage of the violent crimes in that state are committed by illegals?
Do you believe that Idaho needs a similar law?
If the federal government continues to fail in their responsibility, what do you suggest we do to handle an estimated 11 million illegals in the US?

Ha! I love it. “I’m not going to go off about my opinion … but here are some ‘questions’ that essentially state my opinion.”
These people …
Top ↑I grew up in Southern Arizona. It’s not just about crime. Under the table employment of illegal aliens depresses wages in the trades and other lines of work, and it puts a tremendous strain on the resources of the state for healthcare, social services, and the schools.
I doubt this law will stick, but it jump started the debate again. The US/Mexico border is a joke. I’ve personally known individuals that were caught by the border patrol and deported in the morning, and back in the US by that same evening.

I wasn’t trying to hide the fact that I’m supportive of Arizona’s new law. Just putting some questions out there that I believe are relevant. I fully understand and agree (and don’t apologize) that the questions are biased from my own viewpoints.
This site’s not a news site. It’s an opinion site.
That’s all.
Top ↑Its a stupid way to try and combat a real problem. Let me make an analogy.
If you have a piece of rotten meat set out its going to draw flies. You can build a fence around the meat but the flies will just find a way over or under it. You can put border guards around the meat with swatters, glue strips, and other tools and they’ll get a lot of flies but a lot will get by them. You can investigate the flies on the meat to see if they have a legitimate reason to be there and send them away if they don’t but the flies will just come back. Or you can simply take away the meat and suddenly the flies will be gone too.
Our job market is the meat. As long as there are jobs for illegals to work they’ll keep on coming back and no amount of enforcement is going to change that. So lets get rid of the meat, aka jobs, by harshly punishing anyone that hires an illegal. If Farmer Joe hires an illegal to work his crops then Farmer Joe goes to jail. If some sweatshop hires them the owner goes to jail. If you hire a day worker illegal to work on your house you go to jail.
As our economy went south the number of illegals coming here actually went down. That should tell you something.
Its the most sure fire way to stop them from coming. Its also the least likely to ever be used since our economy depends upon the subpar wages we pay illegals to harvest the food we eat. Without them our food prices would skyrocket.
Top ↑It is interesting that most of the media don’t even seem to be telling the truth about this law. Mainly, the fact is that police have to be involved in a lawful contact for a previously established violation of the law in order to inquire about immigration status. In fact, lawful immigrants and current citizens were previously required to provide proof of identity before this law was passed. If police pulled you over and you had no documentation, you were taken to the police station and held until your identity was firmly known. You will find this happens in all 50 states…..and has for years. The media doesn’t tell that story….nor do the instigators of protest, like Al Sharpton or La Raza. They are more interested in dividing the American people for political gain. This argument is too important. All it is going to take is one Al Qaeda bomber getting in through Mexico and killing Americans to make the point—-SECURE THE BORDER!
Top ↑The real issue is that by AZ passing this bill, it now puts the spotlight back on the Fed government. the reason why is due to the fact that SB 1070 is a copy of the Federal Immigration Act. So if Az is able to curb it’s influx in illegal immigrants, people will start to question as to why the Fed governmnet was not able to do so. As I have been asking, “what I don’t understand is how can people enter into this country, illegally, breaking the law, yet turn around, and expect the same laws they break to protect them, it’s a double standard”.
Top ↑In order to encourage people to report suspected illegals to ICE (Immigrations and Custom’s Enforcement) I thought it might be a good idea for them to have a theme song. So here goes.
Yo GOP let’s kick it
Ice ice baby
Ice ice baby
All right stop collaborate and listen
Ice is back with my brand new mission
Throwing out illegals daily and nightly
Answering the calls from the righties
Is it even legal I don’t know
Kick them all out then we’ll know
To the extreme I’m pasty like an albino
Get me outside and I burn like candle
Dance go rush to the church that spews
I’m taking back my country those few
Deadly when I shoot my gun
Any hispanic better run or get a felony
Love it or leave it you hispanics better leave it
I can hit the bull’s eye and I ain’t afraid
Wg to a problem and ICE will solve it
Check out your papers while partner handcuffs ya
Ice ice baby
Top ↑Ice ice baby
Way to go “Anonymous” you just proved how incredibly idiotic and racist you are by stating “any hispanic better run or get a felony, love it or leave it you hispanics better leave it.” and to top it off, you’re too much of a coward to say your name. Guess what? There is a difference between ‘illegal mexican immigrant’ and ‘hispanic’ and I know of alot of ‘HISPANICS’ that are citizens by birth and enlisted in the military to keep ignorant jackasses like you happy, and they are a hell of alot more American than you could ever be! Think about that next time you want to make a post about shooting hispanics.
Top ↑Sarcasm is obviously lost on Melody. Do you actually think anyone using a Vanilla Ice song is doing anything but mocking the law and the people that passed it? In case its not clear, this is the same anonymous that posted the song.
Top ↑There is a difference between sarcasm and blatent racism, and anymore it’s getting harder and harder to tell. And if sarcasm was you intent, then I do apologize, however, if it wasn’t…then I meant everything i wrote.
Top ↑Stop with the racist card allready. It has nothing to do with race, it has to do with individuals being in the U.S. illeagally. I might add that Arizona passed this law to decrease the violent crimes in their community. I support them 100%!!!!!! Go Arizona and any other state that has a similar illeagal alien law.
Top ↑Ok so if AZ law official pulls over a dark skinned woman with three children in the back buckled up in her car, and he kindly asks her, “Senora” Where are your and your children papers? She then so happens to tell mighty officer that she is Native American and doesn’t need any papers, but so kindly hands over her DL and tribal ID, to prove that her and her children are natives. Does she have the right to ask mighty officer “Where are your papers sir”? Yes she does!
This “illegal immigration thing is an old issue” Natives Americans use to call it “white people”
its also called racial profiling!
Top ↑Hopefully the U.S. government can create some sort of screening process for employers to run prior to hiring a person. Currently, all an employer needs is a social security card and an I.D. to verify an employees ligitimacy. Many times the documents are fake, but an employer can’t prove it and to question it would be a violation of discrimination laws. While it is true that illegal immigrants are typically much more dependable and harder workers, I hardly doubt that many employers realize they are illegal.
Top ↑Estupidos gringos hijos de puta. Feos y gordos cara de hamburguesa y ademas nazis
Top ↑Hey Jeronimo, if you can’t follow the rules of this country, no matter what language you speak, go somewhere where there are no rules. Just because you may not like the rules does not make the citizens of the United States of America stupid nor nazis. Pack your bags and go home if you don’t like it.
Top ↑Here is something I found interesting about the protests to this law. I heard on the news some man saying that a Hispanic is more likely to be asked for identification than a person with a Swedish accent or who is of Asian decent. Here is my answer to this: This law was passed to prevent illegal immigration. Last I checked it is WAY harder to immigrate illegally from Sweden or Japan (since there’s like.. a giant ocean separating us) than it is to illegally immigrate from many Central American Countries. If given a choice between the three, it would be logical to go for the one who is most likely to be what you’re aiming for, right? It’s not about race, it’s about common logic. If they have their paperwork, then they go free (whether they’re white, black, Asian, or Hispanic), and if they don’t, then they’re in trouble (Also no matter what race you are). I basically always have my license on me, and it’s not that much of a burden, so I don’t see how it is a problem I guess.
Top ↑Hey Guest! jernomio is not following the rules to this website! but just because he is speaking a language u can’t speak doesn’t mean he is from here and needs to pack up his bag and go home. listen u dummy! I speak 5 languages! And I was born in Southern California! I am Hispanic with also European decent and still a proud American! And these so called “illegals” work so you lazy white people can have your eggs and coffee in the morning.
when you go out to eat, you get served by usually a white person, but the people in the back are usually Hispanics, cooking your steak and eggs to your liking and washing the dishes.
when you go stay in a nice resort here in the USA, those nice clean sheets were washed by the nice hard working friendly staff “mexicans” !!!! yep ! so when these laws go into effect, and all the illegals are gone, you will no longer see,
nice landscapes
no resturants open
no hotels running
no fresh produce in the market or farmers markets (cause who picks them for your lazy butts)
oh and go watch the movie “A Day Without a Mexican” funny film!
Top ↑I personally feel that our border laws should be enforced. Thats my feelings on it.
But here’s some information some may not be aware of:
If the U.S. enforced its CURRENT laws, then babies born to illegals wouldnt be citizens of this country either….
At the time of drafting the 14th, the law in place, U.S. Revised Statute 1992 as well as the Civil Rights Act of 1866, both written by the SAME Congress that ratified the 14th, indicate citizenship jurisdiction to be,:
“All persons born in the United States and not subject to any foreign power ” … are declared to be citizens of the United States”
Those born with allegiance to other “foreign powers”, which the offspring of aliens are, be they illegal or legal residents, are not “subject to the jurisdiction of” the United States and should not be U.S. citizens, by the intention of law and the 14th Amendment..
In the Fourteenth Amendment, there are two requirements: (1) birth or naturalization in the United States and (2) being within the jurisdiction of the United States.
If all persons who are born in the United States were ipso facto born within its jurisdiction, then the jurisdiction clause would be rendered superfluous. But a singular requirement of a written constitution is that no interpretation can render any part of the constitution to be without force or meaning. The interpretation, as currently implied resulting in ‘anchor babies’, is in conflict with Constitutional Law and interpretation.
ALSO there is this:
Supreme Court in the “Slaughterhouse Cases”, 3 seperate cases, all involving interpretation of the relatively new Fourteenth Amendment only 5 years after its ratification, all concluding that the U.S.-born children of foreign citizens are not subject to U.S. jurisdiction, therefore are not U.S. citizens under the 14th Amendment.
AND also this….quoted by the autor of the 14th ammendment:
The author of the 14th Amendment, Senator Jacob M. Howard, stated, in reference to the Amendment, “This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the family of ambassadors, or foreign ministers accredited to the the Government of the United States, but will include every other class of persons.”[2]
So basically, for the last 60+ years, anyone born here to illegals in this country, are also illegal. But due to misinterpritation, and misquotation of the law have been granted citizenship….which creates another conundrum:
It is illegal for anyone to benifit from breaking the law…or for them to benifit from somone elses breaking of the law.
Top ↑This is for BB King. How do you know that I do not know Mexican? This is America where the official language is English!!!!! Speak it please!
Hey Steel Wolf, great comment. I hope that the 14th ammendment will be interpreted the way you have interpreted it. To me, that is the only way to read and interpret it.
Top ↑This is America You are right! America has been a melting pot since it was discovered and many many languages have been spoken here and still is. Hey Guest! What do you call someone who knows 3 languages? Trilingual! What do you call someone who knows 2 languages? Bilingual! What do you call someone who only knows one language? An American/Redneck from Idaho!!!!! What do you call someone who knows 5+ languages? BB King!!!
1) Native language, Spanish from home
2) Primary language, English from school, friends, and work.
3) Third language, Chinese, from friends who are Asian.
4) Fourth language, French, just because I wanted to!
5) Arabic language, United States Army! Because I had to!
Top that!
Top ↑You are so awesome BB. Thank you for tooting your own pridefull horn to set us all straight. I don’t ever recall asking you if you knew any other languages because I really don’t care. I was just letting you know that your rude asumption that I did not know the Mexican language was incorrect.
The United States is a melting pot, but the official language spoken her is English and has been since the beginning of the United States.
Top ↑Wow, somone who can act ignorant in 5 different languages…. color me impressed.
Top ↑LOL – Well, Mr.BB – uh? what was your name again? I think you totally miss the point and as far as condoning what Jeronimo’s nasty comment was – shows your real intelligence – now doesn’t it? hehehehhehe. And hey gotta love the fact – that ol Jeronimo has to hide his filthy words behind his language!!! Good one!!!
Top ↑Simply put – come into our country legally! and leave your drug lords and torturers and gang members back in your own country. OH and Do not fly our flag upside down or under yours in OUR country!
TAMMY
Hey Tammy!
Top ↑This will be said in English! [BEEP!] AND AS FOR GUEST! …. THIS IS A MELTING POT AND THERE IS NO REAL OFFICIAL LANGUAGE HERE IN THE U.S. BY LAW THERE ISN’T. GO CHECK SINCE YOU’RE SO SMART. AND HEY STEEL -WOLF….WE PEOPLE OF NATIONS ARE HERE TO STAY AND NOT EVERYONE TAMMY IS A DRUG LORD OR COMES HERE ILLEGALLY! MY DAD DID COME HERE ILLEGALLY! HE PROBABLY WASHED THE DISHES YOU ATE OFF OF…AND MY MOTHER PROBABLY PICKED THE PRODUCED YOU ATE….BUT YOU KNOW WHAT TAMMY? MY PARENTS ARE STINKING WEALTHY….! WHY? CAUSE OF HARD HARD WORK! THEY NEVER HAD [BEEP]! AND IF IDAHO FALLS TODAY WANTS TO BAN ME THEY CAN! [BEEP!]
How do other nations treat people that cross their borders illegally? Think about it…
Top ↑Why don’t we retract all those low-price trade policies we made with Mexico? I’m sure if there is a living wage paid to people in their own country, most would have paltry reason to leave their family, friends, and homes behind in exchange for exploitation in a different land.
We would do well to own our part in all of this, but my guess is, we won’t. Americans have a great way of disconnecting between “I want” and “I have”. So long as we want cheap goods and services, we will continue to complain about “illegals” but we sure won’t turn down that cheap produce!
It’s a 50-50 deal – us AND them. We only want to blame them, though. Typical immature behavior.
Top ↑Anonymous (with the meat analogy) is right, in that Americans are responsible for making illegal immigration to anyone from any nation so attractive. Business owners have adjusted their business models and pricing to allow for the low wages paid to illegals, government foots the bill in hospitals and ERs for them, landlords give them a place to stay, some car dealers sell them vehicles, and, somehow, many are given welfare.
The AZ law is only new on the books to AZ, and is essentially a carbon copy of the Federal Law. The problem is, the feds have become so PC that they don’t enforce it as well as they should.
I propose a few things be done to take the ‘meat’ away from anyone here illegally:
1. NO welfare access
2. NO jobs
3. NO naturalized citizenship to illegals – The concept of naturalized citizenship should only apply to the children of those immigrants who hold a visa, are on the path to citizenship, or are already citizens. If an illegal comes across the border and gives birth, the hospital should care for them and ICE detain them until the mother and baby are healthy enough, and then deport them. I would rather our government foot the bill and protect the lives of a mother and baby then send them back to whereever they came from than for society to foot the bill for them the rest of their lives.
4. NO driver’s licenses
5. NO housing – have everyone trying to rent a place provide proof of citizenship. And, NO, this doesn’t profile or break housing laws.
I guarantee that if our entire nation wasn’t so relaxed about who we let in this country, gave jobs and housing to the 9/11 terrorists wouldn’t have been so successful. This isn’t just about Mexico. Sure, in AZ and other parts of the country, Mexicans are the largest group of offenders to the immigration laws already on the books, but that doesn’t mean we should be less prone to enforce our laws.
The illegal immigrants have become so integrated into our low wage jobs, agriculture, and construction because we’ve allowed it. Had employers not exploited them and built their businesses around illegal practices, the jobs provided would be by-the-book, tax paying jobs. Instead, the businesses have chosen to support illegal immigration and break several tax and employment laws.
Sure it’s going to cause certain industries to suffer some, but shouldn’t criminal activity be punished not rewarded?
The illegal immigrants coming here and living under such circumstances are living a false version of the American Dream. They will never be given the full potential America has to offer them if they work in repressed income jobs. By coming here illegal and not contributing in taxes and getting full-fledged citizenship they are robbing themselves of the promises America has to offer. It’s our own fault, and laws like AZ has added to make the state just as responsible for controlling illegal immigration as the federal government are attempts to correct this injustice to our own citizens – who we are obligated to support and protect.
Top ↑One way to curb the influx of illegal immigration is the E-Verify system, right now it is not mandatory for business to use it, they will only use it if they suspect someone of using another persons information to gain employment. By mandating E-Verify, it would show the potential employer that the SSN is already in use, it would show who the SSN is registered to as well, and if more than one job is attached to the SSN. Another way to curb illegal immigration is by going after those that do hire them, by going after the employer instead of the employee, it will have a greater consequence for the employer by them knowingly hiring illegals, at the risk of loosing their business or the farm in that matter.
Top ↑Also the issue of Identity theft will factor into the picture, with them obtaining SSN, as well as other documents to get employment as well as qualify for welfare. By making the employer use E-verify it will also alert them of possible ID theft situations. What is also interesting is that when you read the Constitution it clearly applies to U.S citizens, and should only offer protection to those that are legal U.S citizens, it doe not say that regardless of your coming here illegally that you are granted any protections under the Constitution.
Well BB, since you admitted that your parents came here illegaly….BY LAW, you are not a U.S. Citizen either.
Judging by your behavior too, it would be no real loss to deport you as well.
Too bad our nation does not enforce its own laws……
Top ↑I’m with Steel-Wolf,
Top ↑BB something or other – needs to get over himself – and it wouldn’t be a loss at all if he was deported (grin).
His Arrogance is over the top. He actually sounds like he might be a rather insecure person. Poor guy!
I always want to puke when I get on a message board that is for comments about ILLEGAL immigrants&some idiot wants to start calling everyone RACIST. Look, I am sick of it somehow being okay that millions of Mexicans break the law&invade our country, but because some bleeding heart people want to cry about Illegals are just “people in search of a better life” so that makes it alright they break our laws. I’m sick of hearing that excuse!! The fact of the matter is that our “government” has elected to pussy foot around this issue for fear that the organizations that support Illegals will take to the airways and call them the “R Word”….God forbid someone be RACIST. That would mean those government officials would LOSE VOTES! Allbeit, ILLEGAL VOTES, but hey…a vote’s a vote, right? That is the problem with all this Mexican Invasion. Anyone who has the power to speak up about this mess is SCARED STIFF to voice an opinion against it for fear the media will slaughter them as a racist the moment they speak up. But if they look at the numbers, the vast majority of our country SUPPORTS THE EFFORT TO STOP THE INFLUX OF ILLEGALS.And as for Arizona, I applaud their effort to actually DO SOMETHING about this mess. Illegals get anchor babies&by loophole stay here, they go to the ER&get free healthcare that I end up paying for&they don’t even take the time to learn to speak a lick of English??? I would never go to China&sue them for not learning to speak English just because I’m there, but don’t speak their native language&for that matter, don’t WANT to speak their language! If that way of thinking makes me racist…so be it. But I’ve got the spine to support my opinion&that’s a hell of a lot better than I can say for my own elected officials at this time. If they don’t like it, I could care less.
Top ↑hey Tammy and steel wolf. my parents did come here illegally! but you know what you dumb little white (B-female dogs).? …they are citizens now which took a lot of hard work. i was born here thank you very much born in the US of A! But raised in this lil redneck Mormon town Idaho Falls! how do ya like em apples! you’re just as arrogance as all these dumb white folks here! you have no room to talk. i would like to see you live the life as an illegal immigrant! you wouldn’t last a day!
Top ↑And your point is what BB. You don’t like lil redneck Mormon town and you think you have to be super tough to live the life of an illegal alien. The rest of what you said was just racist crap. If you don’t like living in Mormon town, get on I-15 and get out of here. You BB are a racist!! Now how do you like em apples?
Top ↑BB has a view — a far-out view.
Top ↑I find it rather disappointing that when the nation was celebrating its independence, President Obama felt compelled to discuss our dependence on illegal aliens. This is the man who was charge with the responsibility to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” He’s shown total disregard to the checks and balances established in the Constitution by making appointments for positions that should be cleared by the House and Senate and feels he can pick and choose which laws he needs to sustain and support: the border control laws being one he doesn’t seem to agree with.
Top ↑Arizona kicked over the hornet’s nest. It needed to be done, I guess, and if their law gets Washington off it’s butt and do the much needed immigration overhaul, something good may eventually come from it.
But right now, I wouldn’t want to be an Arizonan… they have lost their tourism, have a bunch of loonies armed to the teeth acting like a bunch of vigilantes on the border, are facing millions of dollars they’ll need to enforce the law until it’s overturned (more taxes for them!), are facing a stack of lawsuits, and at the end of this month, all the Hispanics, legal or not, are going to boycott- no working, no shopping, no showing ID.
We will all get to see the effects of a Day Without A Mexican for real.
Top ↑Our daughter is an immigration lawyer in Phoenix and opposes the law even though she stands to gain a lot of business. What she’s concerned about is the impact on tourism and on the overall Arizona economy. Boomer has it right – “We will all get to see the effects of a Day Without A Mexican for real.” It’s funny how, when it gets to the pocketbook, people, big business and governments start rethinking their priorities. It happened with the Birmingham boycott a long time ago. And yes Boomer is right on – maybe the wimpy, self-serving Feds (our Congress and Pres) will finally do something about an immigration overhaul.
Top ↑A Federal Judge granted an injunction on many sections of SB 1070 a little earlier today, so the liberals can give a sigh of relief.
Top ↑Don’t be barbaric¡¡¡¡ learn spanish
Top ↑*sigh*
1. I don’t blame Mexicans for wanting to leave Mexico – right now, it sucks big time.
2. I don’t like the fact that they come here, for reasons previously discussed. There are opportunities here that are easily accessible to them. Jobs, that Americans don’t want to do, or won’t do, for that $.
3. Want to keep immigrants out? Make it undesirable for them to come here. Gov’t doesn’t need to crack down on the borders, gov’t needs to crack down on American businesses hiring them.
Top ↑As Americans, we need to realize that if we do away with the cheap manual labor jobs the immigrants do, WE WILL pay more for many things. That’s how economics work.
